Wyoming 2020

2020 was a nightmare, something we never thought we would never witness in our lifetime. This year will forever be known, our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will be learning about this year in their history classes. Our country shut down, most of us didn’t leave our house unless it was for necessities. My two jobs, a PCT downtown Des Moines & a flight attendant are both essential jobs. Which meant, I was still working during the times where most of us were unfortunately out of a job. The airline I work for announced a temporary leave option, since we lost a lot of flying due to the pandemic. I took full advantage of the chance to relax and get caught up in life. In 5 years, I hadn’t had a long stretch of time off so it was much needed.

July 8, 2020; Flew to Wyoming

July came around, my good friend Robin, that I spoke about in my latest blog, asked me if I wanted to take her two grandchildren, Nicholas and Damon, to Wyoming with her. If you know me, I quickly responded and said HECK YES.

When I landed in Cody, Robin and the boys were already there, I was so excited to see them. WESTERN COUNTRY LIVING. I loved it. You should definitely go downtown and walk around all the cute shops, have a few beers and listen to some live music. The locals will embrace you as their own. Small towns like Cody are what I live for.

Now Onto The Good Stuff…

Cody’s airport is known as the Yellowstone Regional Airport…why do you think that is? I’ll give you one guess, hehe. Yellowstone National Park is a true natural treasure. It is approximately an hour drive from downtown Cody. Three sights that need to be a MUST HAVE on your list should be: Ole Faithful, Grand Prismatic Springs and Mammoth Hot Springs. While your driving around the national park, you’ll catch yourself speechless. These of course are just my favorite, there is plenty more to do at the park! While driving or hiking you might run into some wildlife, including: bighorn sheep, bison, elk, moose, mountain goats and deer. If you go a little outside of Yellowstone you’ll see the Teton Mountain Range, definitely worth the extra time!

Old Faithful

  • The World’s Most Famous Geyser.

  • Erupts around 20 times a day.

  • Old Faithful can vary in height from 100-180 feet with an average near 130-140 feet.

  • Eruptions normally last between 1.5 to 5 minutes.

Grand Prismatic Springs

  • Extremely hot water travels 121 feet from a crack in the Earth to reach the surface of the spring. Deeper than a 10 story building.

  • The bright rainbow colors come from bacteria.

  • 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mammoth Hot Springs

  • At Yellowstone each year, the rain and melted snow seeps into the earth. Cold to begin with, the water is quickly warmed by heat radiating from a molten magma chamber deep underground, which then caused a cataclysmic volcanic explosion that occurred 600,000 years ago.

  • Rises to 36 feet tall.

  • Mammoth Hot Springs was named in 1871 for its resemblance to the peaked caps worn during the French Revolution.

Grand Teton National Park

  • Teton mountain range, the 4,000-meter Grand Teton peak, in the valley known as Jackson Hole.

  • The Tetons are one of the youngest mountain ranges in North America. They have been uplifting for less than 10 million years.

  • Popular destination for outdoor activities such as; mountaineering, hiking, camping and fishing.

If you haven’t been out to the “wild west,” as you can tell from the writing and the pictures, it is remarkable. Natural beauty at its finest. Perfect for the kids! Enjoy the pictures.
