Amsterdam, Netherlands in Two Days
Planning a trip to the Netherlands?
My Two Day Experience will hopefully give you some insight & motivation to visit the Netherlands! (:
Day 1:
We woke up extra early to take the train up to Amsterdam’s Central Station from Brussels, Belgium. Once we arrived, we immediately ordered an Uber to our hotel. The Uber took around 15- 20 minutes, which wasn’t bad at all. We arrived at our hotel and were informed our room wasn’t going to be ready for a few hours. To be honest, we were a little frustrated because we definitely wanted to relax for a bit, but things happen! Thankfully they allowed us to stow our luggage with them. We needed to find something to do for the next few hours… I brought up the idea of renting a bike. Bicycles are the main transportation in Amsterdam so our hotel had plenty available for only 10 euros a day. My sister wasn’t too found of the idea of renting a bike, but I thought it would be an experience. I am not kidding you when there are actual roads (like there are for cars here) for bike riders. It made it really simple to get around. However, our anxiety was sky high because of the amount of people. Our first stop was at a local restaurant for some breakfast food. We were hungry. We ended up sharing their “local” breakfast which consisted of eggs, beans, bacon, fruit, etc. It was lovely. I then found a Tulip Market I wanted to go to. As you can see pictured below, they were beautiful. For those that don’t know, Amsterdam is known for its Tulip’s. Around that area there were several shops and local stores for us to stop and visit. By then, it was time to head back to the hotel.
Don’t worry, our room was ready! We wanted to take a small nap, since we planned on going out for some drinks later. <<Now, this is a PG-13 rated blog, so all I will say is if you are over 21, you need to experience the Red Light District. Google search, and you will see exactly what I am talking about, haha. >> Once we were ready, we made our way to get dinner and enjoy a cold beer at a very well known restaurant named Spargo. Spargo is right in the city center, and is just a few minute walk to the Red Light District, which is also known as the place to “go out.” The location was perfect for us since we planned on getting some drinks after dinner! We shared a pizza, it was fantastic! Definitely recommend dining here. Shortly after we finished eating, we made our way to the Red Light District, and the rest is history, LOL. Day 2:
We woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning… but seriously, haha! Unfortunately, when you only have two days in a big city, you need to utilize every minute you have. Today, we planned on seeing more of the “touristy” things. We started off by going to the Royal Palace of Amsterdam which is pictured right below. Around that area is De Dam, the Royal Balcony, tons of upscale shopping and hundreds of places to dine. We picked out a cute little breakfast spot named ROYAL 98. I got eggs benedict, my sister most likely got something sweet, honestly cant remember, lol. They do have a wide variety of food choices as well as unique cocktails! Pictured below is a river boat, which is a very popular tourist attraction in Amsterdam. After a few hours of shopping, it was time for the next stop!
I was CONVINCED I needed to see a Windmill in Amsterdam, better yet one of the first windmills ever built. We walked for good 45 minutes until we finally arrived at the De Gooyer Windmill. I was so excited! It is the tallest wooden windmill in the Netherlands at 26.6 meters high. It was constructed in 1609 and was owned by two brothers who were from the town of Gooiland, hint where the name comes from!
We ended our second day relaxing at the rooftop bar which luckily was in our hotel! It was such a nice few days and I would love to spend more time in Amsterdam.
The name of our hotel Hotel Casa Amsterdam. We paid $355 for 2 nights, which I felt was a fair price for the location and the quality! The link to the hotel is attached below.
