Brussels, Belgium; 2 Day Itinerary

Do I look happy in the picture below?! Well I would be concerned if your answer was no, haha. Brussels has always been a spot on the map I wanted to make a visit to and it was certainly worth the time and money! The history, locals and interesting food (to say the least) made it an even better visit than we anticipated! (:

Throughout the blog I will provide a few fun facts about each sight!

Hotel

  • Would stay again, lovely atmosphere and helpful staff!


Itinerary Day 1

Royal Palace of Brussels

  • Can you visit? YES, open from July 23 to August 28; Tuesday - Sunday 10:30 am- 5 pm

  • Cost of entry? FREE

  • Official home of the Belgium Monarchy, however King Philippe and Queen Mathilde reside at the Royal Palace of Laeken

  • Constructed in 1783, 5 floors & 355,500 sq. ft

  • King’s administrative residence and main workplace, where he works daily with his staff

Mont des Arts

  • Can you visit? YES, outdoor park open 24 hours!

  • Cost of entry? FREE

  • Includes the Royal Library of Belgium, the National Archives of Belgium, the square, and a pubic garden

  • One of the most important culture sights in Brussels

  • Is known for its beautiful “green transition” between the upper and lower parts of the city

Brussels Park

  • Can you visit? YES, outdoor park open 24 hours!

  • Cost of entry? FREE

  • AKA Royale park, is the oldest park in the region

  • A rectangular park that is 32 acres big

  • Stands between the Royal Palace and the Federal Parliament

Kleine Zavelsquare

  • Can you visit? YES, outdoor park

  • Cost of entry? FREE

  • AKA square of Petit Sablon

  • Across from the Notre Dame de Sablon Church (which you will see pictured below)

  • One of the most beautiful gardens in Brussels

Eglise Notre- Dame de Laeken Cathedral

  • Can you visit? YES. Closed Monday’s; 2-5pm most days, 10:30 am- 5pm Sunday’s

  • Cost of entry? FREE, prefer to have shoulders covered

  • Neo-gothic Roman Catholic Church in the district of Laeken

  • Built in memory of Queen- Lousie Marie, wife of King Leopold I

  • Opened in 1854

Le Clan des Belges

  • Hours? Restaurant is open 12-3 pm everyday for lunch & 5-10:30 pm everyday for dinner

  • In Belgian tradition its normal to eat raw ground beef… I learned that the hard way.. make sure you google and translate everything before you order your food! My meal (pictured below) was given to me raw, and because I didn’t understand they weren’t willing to let me order something else, I would have had to pay the full price for an additional meal. To keep prevent yourself from this issue, know what you are ordering! (:

  • Is known for its brunch and does accept reservations! Beer was tasty.


Itinerary Day 2

Cappuccino Brussel

  • Hours? Open everyday from 8am- 1am

  • Breakfast and coffee at Cappuccino Brussel was a perfect choice before we got on the train to Ghent, it filled us up!

  • Offers dine-in, take out and delivery! Huge menu, famous for there crepes!

  • Outdoor patio, good prices & friendly staff (:

Grand Palace

  • Can you visit? Of course! Square is open 24-7

  • Cost of entry? FREE

  • Central Square of the city

  • Just a quick 4 minute walk to the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert

  • Contains the town hall & the Brussels city museum, if you are interested in visiting you would want to google the entry fees beforehand

Le Belgique Gourmande

  • Hours? Everyday 9am-11pm

  • If you go to Brussels and don’t stop by a chocolate shop, you have done something wrong!

  • Out of all the chocolate shops in Belgium it is ranked #9

  • Offers a wide variety of waffles, chocolates, macarons and much more

The Giant Wheel

  • Hours? Sunday- Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday- Saturday 11am-12am

  • Cost of entry? To see the wheel its free, to ride it costs 9 euros per adult and 5 euros per person

  • Fits 8 people per cabin & is 180 feet or 55 meters tall

  • The highest point in Brussels is AKA “the view”

  • Recommend visiting at night, has multicolored lighting which makes it a beautiful sight!

Restaurant T’ Kelderke

  • Hours? Everyday 12pm-11pm

  • Located in the Grand Palace Square

  • Is known for there indoor dining which is located in the “basement” it resembles a cave

  • Puppies are allowed!

  • Outdoor dining is spectacular as well as the French onion soup, haha! 10/10 recommend.
