Day Trip to the Island of Capri

This is a day trip most of us dream of making, one of the most popular islands in the Mediterranean. Located on the Bay of Naples, Capri is known for its blue waters, upscale shopping, and unique landscapes.

Ferry from Sorrento to Capri

The easiest and simplest way of reaching the island of Capri is to take a ferry. Depending on what port you are departing from, the ride could be anywhere from 15 minutes - hours. You can book your tickets online or purchase them at the ports. We decided to purchase a round-trip ticket directly from the Port of Sorrento, which was around 40 euros per person (20 euros each way). I enjoyed the flexibility with the ticket, we could come back at any time, were informed how often the ferry leaves, and when the last ferry of the day was. They do not provide ferries at night. Keep in mind that the last ferry every day is at 6 pm.

**For all of my followers who have a weak stomach… make sure you are prepared for the sea to be a bit rough. It was extremely uncomfortable, even for me. I would rather you be over-prepared, rather than spending your day feeling sick.**

Lunch, Shopping & Taxi Ride

After we got off the ferry, our stomachs were pretty upset, lol. We decided to sit and have a nice lunch. Pictured below, you’ll see the Caesar salad I ordered… let’s just say, I wanted 10 more! Around the port area, you’ll find tons of restaurants, and shops, as well as taxi stands. After lunch, we shopped around a bit, looking for some unique souvenirs. Then caught a taxi up to a different shopping area which was also the way to Giardini di Augusto.

Giardini di Augusto

Knowing we only had about 5 hours on the island, we wanted to make sure we made the best of our time. Giardini di Augusto was at the top of our list. The gardens are panoramic and are located on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Gulf of Naples. They are quite small and you could easily walk around within 15-20 minutes, but I recommend enjoying the views. The taxi will drop you off in the middle of the town and from there it’s about a 5-minute walk. If you tell them where you want to go, they will know exactly where to take you! A few fun facts about the gardens include: it is one of the most visited attractions in Capri, was established/designed by a German industrialist, and the best time to visit is early mornings and at night to avoid the large crowds. Below you will see several pictures from different sections of the garden! Enjoy.

Capri Rooftop Lounge Bar

If you would like to continue to see the fabulous views that Capri has to offer… I highly recommend stopping by the rooftop lounge bar! If you choose to eat or just have a drink, you will receive great service. We were craving an adult beverage, more specifically a martini after all the walking and transportation the day had brought. I will say the drinks are quite expensive, but you can’t expect anything less when you are overlooking the Gulf of Naples.

Appetizers & Drinks

This was our last stop before making our way back to the port. We decided to share a few appetizers and have an Aperol spritz before heading back. And if you haven’t indulged in an Aperol spritz, you’re missing out on one of the most well-known Italian drinks.

Ferry from Capri to Sorrento

As soon as you knew it, our day trip in Capri had come to an end. Since we had already purchased the roundtrip ticket earlier, we boarded on the last ferry back at 6 pm. We were super thankful the ride back was smoother, it felt like our stomachs had just settled down from the ride over, haha!

I hope I was able to provide you with some good information on the Island of Capri! There is tons to do there so if you have the time, I would stay for at least for a few days. As always, thank you for reading. XOXO Tay
