Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

Positano, Italy

Pic’s, Tip’s & Storytime

A scenic seaside paradise on the Amalfi coast of Italy.

A 15-minute drive from Sorrento or an hour bus ride and a 3-hour hike, lol. You are about to learn about one of the biggest mistakes I have EVER made while traveling, the fact that I am admitting it should be mind-boggling to you, lol! Google Maps has always had my back… but not this day.

Storytime… I inserted the directions from the Sorrento main train station to Positano. Here are the directions that were given… “Board the Circumvesuviana Train toward Napoli Porta Nolana, ride 5 stops, 15 minutes. Exit train at Vico Equense. Board bus 009 Circolari Vico Equense, ride 36 stops, 29 minutes. Exit bus at Santa Maria Del Castello. Walk 10 minutes. Arrive in Positano.”

So now that you have read the directions, which I am sure you understand completely, kidding, at least you know what I was looking at. We exited the bus stop at Santa Maria Del Castello and the bus driver asked, “Where are you going?” We said “Positano!!” He said, “This is not the way to Positano.” I then proceeded to show him the directions on my phone and he looked at us like we were crazy. Well, I know why he looked at us that way now.. because it was the steepest, longest, and most confusing way to get down a cliff. Plus, it didn’t help that we weren’t in the right attire! An extra added fun fact, my sister and my friend were in skirts, nice outfits, and had sandals on, whereas I had jeans and a crop top on…YEAH, lol. Once we arrived in Positano and spent the day there, other tourists informed us of the bus that leaves every 30 minutes and is nonstop to Sorrento, needless to say, we got back MUCH faster. Remember, I have traveled to almost 40 countries and have never made a mistake like this, so it was bound to happen at some point, it makes for an excellent story! My sister and Lauren will never let me live this down, lol.

Now that you have heard about one of my most embarrassing moments, I am guessing you want to know a little bit more about Positano?!

Here’s a Few Sights to Check Out…

  • Santa Maria Cathedral

  • Arienzo Beach Club

  • The Path of Gods

  • Spiaggia Grande

  • Fornillo Beach

We enjoyed visiting the cathedral, walking around, shopping, eating at a beach club, and enjoying the scenery.

I recommend staying for at least a few days so you can see and do much more than we got the chance too! Keep in mind, that hotels/BNB’s are Positano is VERY expensive, so staying in a surrounding town, like we did, will be better on the budget.

A Few Facts…

  • Nicknamed “The Vertical City”

  • Ranked one of the best “slope” cities in the world

  • One of the towns within the Amalfi Coast

  • Around 4,000 residents

  • A 75-minute drive from Naples, Italy

  • Tourist busy season is during the summer

ENJOY the pictures!
