Day Trip to Napa Valley

Have you ever been or wanted to go to WINE COUNTRY?!

I’m looking forward to giving you insight on what your day trip to Napa should consist of, and fill you in on what my experience was like!

A few things to know:

  • We were staying in San Francisco near the airport, so the drive was about an hour and a half up to Napa Valley and two hours back because of traffic. I would recommend staying in Napa for more than a day so you can get the best experience.

  • MAKE RESERVATIONS! Most of these wineries are sold out most of the time, and a lot of them require a reservation. You will not be able to tour the wineries or have tastings without one.

First Stop; V. Sattui Winery Napa Valley

V. Sattui Winery is the most popular winery in Napa (which is why I chose it.) The reviews are spectacular and most of them stated that it’s a must need on your list. I am so glad I listened. I knew we only had one day to be in Napa, so I wanted to make the most of it. I chose V. Sattui first and a more upscale winery second. V. Sattui is a very homey atmosphere, the sommelier’s, AKA wine experts, were so friendly and welcoming. You could tell they loved their jobs and wanted you to feel right at home. Your reservation here is blocked out for two hours, so we had plenty of time to walk around and enjoy our tasting. They have an actual store on site that has fresh food, cheese, wine, souvenirs, etc. I decided to take some olive oil home (I highly recommend, plus it comes in small 3.5 oz bottles so you can take it through the airport!) If you want an amazing start to your trip in Napa, you should, no questions asked, put V. Sattui first.

  • Below are pictures of the gorgeous winery!

Lunch Stop; Gott’s Roadside

So if you have drank wine before, you know you are going to have the munchies at some point, (hint as to why all wineries have cheese/meat plates plus more, lol.) Gott’s Roadside was recommended by our Sommelier at V. Sattui and boy was he on point! It’s right in the heart of Napa Valley and is known for their burgers and fries! It makes for a perfect quick lunch stop in between wineries, plus if you are still wanting to sip on some wine, they sell glasses of wine from the local wineries from right there in Napa! Very fun and lively atmosphere, I would give their food a SOLID 5/5.

Second Winery; Robert Mondavi Winery

Robert Mondavi was exactly what I pictured a winery in Napa Valley to resemble. Pure elegance. It felt like we were walking into a dream. We traveled to Napa in the middle of November, the weather was a perfect medium, not too hot, not too cold. It was a bright sunny day in the high 60’s. Now this is completely different than V. Sattui, but a good different. The sommeliers here were still very caring and friendly, however they took their expertise in wine a lot more seriously. The tasting was different as well, at V. Sattui we had a menu and we got to select 5 wines we wanted to taste. While here they brought you 4 kinds and gave you very in depth descriptions. I did like the difference of the two, it made the short time we had in Napa something to remember. Robert Mondavi doesn’t have as much room to wander other than courtyard pictured and their logo store, but it’s so breathtaking the only thing on your mind is wine and the view. They also had options for meat and cheese trays. We did a cheese tray for $18 and it was phenomenal. Loved it here, would go again, super relaxing and as expected their wine was TASTY.

Finally, The Famous Napa Valley Sign

We drove by the famous Napa Valley sign. Is it bad if I admit that I wanted to go to Napa just to see that sign at first? It was definitely worth the drive. I’m a nerd for tourist pics, if you can’t already tell, hehe. I hope this helps you with planning your trip to Napa!
