Part 2 : My Favorite Beaches Around the US
Three States where my favorite beaches are located…only THREE! Can you guess where they would be?!
State #2 : CALIFORNIA
OOO, what a surprise another state known for there beaches?!
Here is my take on my favorite beaches in California. (:
Btw… thanks for being patient with me, with two jobs and school I have been extremely busy!
Crescent Beach, California
I visited Crescent Beach in August of 2020…. right at the beginning of COVID. Not a time to travel, but I am a free bird so of course I still went. I will say with everything going on in the country and never seeing a beach as such before, it made it that much more special for me! California beaches aren’t like Florida beaches, sand is colder and darker, and water isn’t as clear, however it has its on type of beauty. You’ll see as to why I say that in the pictures below!
It is three miles long, so it is rarely crowded!
“Crescent shaped-stretch,” which is south of the city, Crescent City. Plenty of places to stay in the city of you choose to make it a weekend trip!
Santa Catalina Island, California
Oh, Catalina. I LOVED IT! For those that have been to Greece, it is a mini Aegean Island! There is only one way to get there, which is by the Catalina Island Express. It was decently cheap.. roughly around $20 one way. About an hour ride, and you’ll pull right up into the downtown area! **Piece of advice: it can be a very rough ride, windy and cold, there is inside seating, but if you want to see any of the views your best bet is the top deck. If you have motion sickness in any way shape or form, take something to calm your stomach beforehand! You will thank me.
Three mainland ports in San Pedro, Long Beach and Dana Point (we went out of Long Beach, which is closest to the city of Los Angeles.) The ports offer a ride to either Avalon (downtown, city center) or Two Harbors which is on the very north part of the island. If you are visiting or are staying on the island you will most likely be going into Avalon, but don’t count me on that, check before going.
The island is best known for its wildlife, scuba diving, charming coastal towns, and Mt. Orizaba, its highest peak! So much fun shopping, bar hopping, wonderful eateries, and so much more!! Give me a message before you make your way and I can send you the details on the best spots!
Huntington Beach, California
Any surfers reading this..?! The surfing is so good in fact, they nicknamed the area “surf city.” When I was visiting, we watched a surfing class! Being from Iowa, I have never seen such thing, it was really neat to watch! For those who haven’t tried, or no nothing about the sport, it shows you how much patience is needed, and teaches you a lot more than you think!
The beach is a long 8.5 miles, mild climate. Up and down the beach are tons of fun and lively restaurants! Other than surfing, I will say it has been crowded both times I have been, as well as events happening almost all the time, which makes it enjoyable in my opinion! However if you are wanting to relax, I suppose if you go during the week it will be more the local crowd and won’t be as hectic.
Take a visit to the International Surfing Museum! It displays all sorts of longboards and a bunch of other famous memorabilia. It was really neat to see everything in person and read all the stories.
