ROME HAS MY HEART…why do I say this? The beauty speaks for itself.
Not only was Rome my first trip EVER overseas 7 years ago, but it still is my favorite city of all time. In late October, my sister, dad and I made a trip over to Italy.

Day 1
The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain & Spanish Steps

Hours: 9 AM- 6:45 PM everyday, holidays may differ

Go early morning or nighttime for less crowds
Opened in 125 A.D. & 143 feet tall
Famous for the most preserved monument in Ancient Roman history
Name comes from Greek words: pan “everything” and theon “divine”
Was constructed as a temple dedicated to the Gods and a burial sight for several famous artists and kings
Trevi Fountain; Facts & Info
Hours: 24 hours a day

Also known as ‘Fountana di Trevi’
Opened May 22, 1762
Located in Piazza di Trevi
If not the most famous fountain in the world, IT IS the most famous in Rome
Legend has it that a coin thrown in the fountain will ensure a return trip back to Rome
Make sure you toss a coin in for good luck!

Colosseum, Roman Forum & Vatican City

Hours: 9 AM- 4:30 PM everyday
Cost is 16 euros per person and less expensive if bought online in advance. I recommend buying a tour, we paid 48 euros a person, it was worth every penny
One of the seven wonders of the world
Over 1,900 years old
World’s largest amphitheater
It is known for being a home to events, such as gladiator fights, executions' and animal hunts
You are able to see a section of the arena that was once underground and was where prisoners, animals and gladiators were held before their matches
Make sure to go inside, the history and scenery will leave you breathless
Do your research! If you aren’t going to take a guided tour, at least be educated on what you are about to walk into
To this day, one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture I have ever laid eyes on
Roman Forum & Palatine Hill; Facts & Info
Hours: 9 AM - 4:30 PM, everyday
Entrance is covered by the standard admission ticket, which provides access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill
Founded in 8th century B.C. (a very long time ago)
Block 2-3 hours to walk around, plan for more time than needed
Roman Forum & Palatine Hill are adjacent from each other, you can walk back and forth between the two
Located in the center of Rome
The world’s oldest shopping mall was built in the Roman Forum
Was used for day-to-day life; public speeches, criminal trials, commercial affairs, elections and gladiator matches all occurred here
Most of the ancient buildings were destroyed in 410 A.D. right when the Roman empire started to fall
Vatican City; Facts & Info
Hours: 9 AM- 5:30 PM, last entry is at 4 PM
Entrance to Vatican City and St. Peter’s Square are free, however to visit Museums and the Sistine Chapel there is a small fee
Is an independent city-state that covers just over 100 acres, which would make it only 1/8 the size of Central Park in New York City
Headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church
Residence of Pope Francis, who was elected March 13, 2013
St. Peter’s Basilica is located in St. Peter’s Square, entry to church is free
Dress code is extremely strict, both men and women NEED to cover their knees and upper arms, no shoulders exposed (they will escort you out)
